Alpheus Press Releases
Intimate Hotels Conference
18th - 22nd Sept 2006
Global
representatives of Intimate Hotels Barbados (IHB) were on the
island last month at a symposium designed to develop initiatives
to move the brand forward.
The symposium, held at Rainbow Beach Hotel on
the south coast, allowed representatives from the UK, Europe,
Canada and Jamaica to participate in highly constructive
brainstorming sessions and also carry out site visits to a number
of Intimate Hotels.
The concept of the meeting was developed after
Acting Executive Director, Marc McCollin, attended a Destination
Marketing training session with the Barbados Tourism Authority
where all of their marketing executives from all over the world
were brought together.
Mr. McCollin stated that: “During the training
I realised that we also have reps in the various markets working
together to create a greater awareness of Intimate Hotels
Barbados, but they’ve never met! I believed that bringing the reps
together would create an opportunity to share ideas, strategies
and create a clear, consistent message that would be delivered to
the consumer and our travel partners in all of our markets.”
Important issues such as branding and
positioning were discussed and a number of action points were
raised. The development of the website,
, was also deliberated since the
site has continued to show tremendous growth over the last two
years.
The Acting Executive Director stated “With the
dynamic nature of the tourism industry and constant evolution of
the internet we must always be proactive in the development of our
website as an essential marketing channel.”
Members of the Board of Directors also had an
opportunity to participate in the meeting and shared ideas from a
hotelier’s perspective. The implementation of a number of packages
was discussed in order to create what Intimate Chairman, Denis
Tull, referred to as ‘The Intimate Experience.”
The symposium concluded with an informal
cocktail reception at the Rainbow Beach Hotel, where
representatives had the opportunity to meet members of the
Intimate Hotels of Barbados.
Sarah Rickwood, of Alpheus Leisure, who
represents the IHB in the UK, said: “It was great to meet all the
reps and discuss ways of moving the brand forward. The outcome was
hugely positive and can only benefit the members and the island
itself as a holiday destination.”
