'Women
in motion' - Welcome back
Dear Friends and Sponsors: ()
We
are pleased to welcome back the 'Women in Motion' team, after
participating in the 2004 Budget Nautique Women's One Design
Keelboat Caribbean Championship, held last weekend St Maarten.
After qualifying for the silver fleet, we congratulate them
on 2nd place!
Teams from Dominican Republic, St. Croix, St. John, St. Maarten
(5 teams), St. Thomas, Switzerland and Tortola (winners) competed
on Sunfast Jenneau 20's in what turned out to extremely variable
wind conditions and intense competition. The racing began Saturday
morning with three qualifying races to determine in which fleet
the teams would compete for the remainder of the regatta. Then
on the Saturday and Sunday, seven races took place on each on
the seven available boats. 'Women in Motion placed 2nd in four
of these races, to take second overall.
The
team comprising of Penny McIntyre (main/skipper), Karen Cheney
(helm), Courtenay Dundy (foredeck), Kate Jeter (jib), would
like to thank everyone for supporting them in their quest. Special
thanks goes to sponsors marcus evans, Mount Gay, Alpheus Leisure,
Pragmatix Communications, Barbados Sailing Association and the
Lucky Horseshoe. Also special thanks to Tony Hoad and Peter
Hoad for coaching and advice.
As the first ever Barbados team to participate in this event,
the team would like to take this opportunity to promote women's
sailing in Barbados. We would like to send a team to next year's
regatta and especially to promote and train young women sailors
in keel boat races to enable them to participate in regattas
such as this. 'Women in Motion' has set up a fund to help a
team travel to next year regatta so anybody interested in sailing
or helping, please talk to Penny or one of the crew.
Once again congratulations, and we look forward to even better
results in the future!

Sincerely,
The Crew
