About Barbados
With stunning palm fringed beaches, outstanding natural beauty
and facilities to pursue virtually any land or sea-based sport,
Barbados is the jewel of the Caribbean crown. Boasting the best
sunshine record of all the islands, it is a year-round holiday and
sporting destination. Also known as Little England, the island
displays a rich heritage and colonial charm. You can
experience old-style plantation living on a number of
organised tours. Barbados is also
famous for its Mount Gay Rum distillery, the world’s oldest rum
producer.

The explorers among you will discover picturesque fishing
villages, spectacular flora and fauna and the rugged, spectacular
beaches of the east coast. You will undoubtedly make a few
discoveries of your own too, all of which highlight the
individuality of this special island.
Local People
The cricket-crazy Bajans are justifiably proud of their island and
are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. Visitors are
welcomed onto the island with open arms.
Dress Code
Barbados is traditionally a very laid back island so casual wear
is perfectly suitable. Formal dress is not necessary. Lightweight
cottons are advised.
Currency
Barbados dollar. Conversion to the sterling = 3.5 dollars. Please
note that currencies do fluctuate so this should be treated as a
guide only. US dollars are accepted around the island and most
stores and restaurants accept major credit cards and travellers
cheques.
Safety
Aspect
Serious crime is not common in Barbados. As with most places,
remain vigilant and keep to familiar areas at night.
Language
The official language is English, but the Bajan dialect is widely
spoken.
